I have an ST1000LM014 with LVD5 (has the 8GB NAND flash onboard). It took me months to find the correct donor ROM . I tried LVD5 taken from a similar model, but it was NOT compatible and i had to find the exact same model drive with close match on serial (W77 here btw) and identical LVD5 fw.
After moving adaptives and writing ROM, i get NOTHING but BSY.
with original ROM on donor PCB i also get only BSY.

Actually the only way i get any terminal output at all is with original PCB + original ROM.

drive never spins up no matter what is attempted.

I will try some of the above-mentioned methods , including use of loader, etc. but we need an expert write-up detailing the problem and solution.

I have just recovered one with the same fw. I properly know how to do but need the patient driver on my hand.
The key problem is not on ROM but Nand .

Here is the standard solution for SSHD.

Unfortunately, the standard solution doesn't work on LVD5 FW version :(

But if you will be able to fix the drive then please let us know :)

I could be wrong, but I think the LVD5 indicates a Lenovo FW, (LVxx)
like DExx is Dell
HPxx is Hewlett Packard
etc.
So LVxx firmware donors are going to be hard to find since they'll probably have to be a Lenovo laptop pull.
I'm going to be receiving one of these soon, but haven't had a LVD5 yet, and it seems I've just been lucky so far doing PCB swaps on DExx models. Will we really need to have an exact match for FW to use a donor PCB for this, or is there some other workaround?

Dear Thomas,

To solve the NAND Cache issue on LVD5 FW version, you can downgrade the FW version to LVD3 or LVD1 and use the standard Kahuna procedure.

I've done 2 cases this week without changing the PCB by using the same process I used when I posted about it here - https://www.recoveryforce.com/forums/vi ... =demd#p549
