An easy way to transferring data to HFS+ drive

Postby osity » 26.09.16, 19:14

In the past I have run into some issues with giving back data on Exfat for "Mac only" users.
Is there a way to transfer data from DE directly to HFS+?

For "mac only" users I find myself having to transfer from DE to Exfat, then from Exfat to HFS+.
Having to transfer twice is time consuming. Is this the most efficient way if I want the client to have HFS+ only?

Thanks, I'll check it out. At 49.99 that seems like a bargain.
Do you know if it mounts the drive into the "computer" or if it uses its own interface?
I'll likely try the trial.

It mounts in computer. But, it may have similar issues as FAT32/ExFAT with partition getting corrupt (the reason we stopped using this years ago, could be better now). Another option: moving files over network to the Mac from DE. Otherwise, move to NTFS drive, then read/copy on Mac to HFS (since Mac can read, but not write, to NTFS drives by default).

Are you implying the mapping of a Macbook drive over TCP/IP on a PC? It seems I would still have to do two transfers. One to the Mac Drive then again to the clients destination Drive

Would be nice if Ace would make DE recognize HFS when saving from image files ...

Amarbir,
Of course they complain about NTFS, that's the point of this conversation. We're discussing the easiest way to get it onto HFS+. If I was a Mac user I wouldn't want it on NTFS or exfat either.
There are limitations and potentials for corruption with those in a Mac Environment.

If you move the fies over the network onto an HFS drive (e.g. the customer's tranfer drive), then it's not NTFS it's Mac.

I think more importantly, Ace needs to make DeViewer Mac compatible so we can send file listings to Mac customers.

I set up a OSX workstation only job is copying data HFS+, Data Rescue on some cases plus handling fusion drives.
Would like to test PARAGON HFS+ for windows, from the specs it looks ok, has any one tested if DE can write to a mounted HFS+ partition directly ?
There is a 10 days try out version, so i just need to find som time to test.

If cloned with DE with good file system, but bad sectors in files, we copy from DE to HFS+ formatted destination drive using MacDrive.
If file system is damaged, we move over to a Mac and use various recovery programs to recover directly to the HFS+ formatted destination.

If at all possible, we avoid copying to FAT32/exFAT formatted drives.

Paragon HFS work great on Windows, mount HFS with write permissions. You can copy data direct from DE.

+1 for Paragon HFS for windows. Just saved all data from HFS+ in DE to at HFS+ mounted in windows.
That will save some time and trouble in the future :)

Has anyone tried both Macdrive and Paragon HFS? How do they compare?
Thanks for the info, great thread!

Huge +1 for Paragon HFS. Using it for several years now. We used MacDrive 7 and 8 before Paragon but it was super buggy. Paragon was cheaper, faster, less buggy, and took hardly any resources.
