6F is not important, also it is usually identified with some header error.

thanks for the reply AJ2008

somebody tell me the same on hdd guru.

Do you think that those 2 disks are compatible enough to swap pcb ?

or hot swap ?

If module sizes are different then you cant hotswap, but if they are the same then it is ok. PCB change and change heads between these also would be fine.

What is problem with the drive?

Originaly, seems to be slower and slower, windows make f***g scandisk everytime.
Further, no access at all (scandisk says unrecoverable errors)

I have access to SA, backup everything with errors. Here is the log wher errors are :

Code: Select all

Module : 32............................. : Module 0032 reading error ABA 2837 reading error - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"
Module : 32............................. : Module 0032 reading error ABA 235541 reading error - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"

Module : 2E............................. : Module 002E reading error ABA 22698 reading error - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"

Physical read error C/H/S: -231/0/59 - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"
Cyl -231; Head 0........................ : Break
Physical read error C/H/S: -232/0/909 - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"
Cyl -232; Head 0........................ : Ok

Cyl -253; Head 0........................ : Ok
Physical read error C/H/S: -253/1/113 - Device Error Detected: "DISK ECU UNSAFE ERROR"
Cyl -253; Head 1........................ : Break

When I try DE, partition table is empty, and ERR UNC appears on scan

What I try :
Module 2E : write copy 1 over copy 0 : ok
Module 32 : write copy from another disk (not same FW)

Original WD6400BEVT-60A0RT0-01-01A01 FW 001300CB

for 2043 to 2045, i rewrite module from file (sabackup of original drive) and recheck, and is ok.

Module 32 is pending list, it is list of sectors identified as bad and pending relocation. If this list is bad it could suggest many errors which may be symptom of some other problem.

If 32 is bad, you will not reach surface, only ABR errors.

You have option to try relocate 32 to unused area of disk, then write with donor then clear it. Also, you can disable this process totally but only when #32 is operational. You can clear manually by modification of module 02.

Personally, for me, your best option is hotswap if you have similar drive for hotswap

Here we are with hotswap...

it is mariner, don't listed in viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7086 so made procedure from pdf doc (even if mariner is ROYL)

Patient Microjogs :
0x0B3D
0x0B2A
0x0B43
0x0B77

Donnor Microjogs :
0x0BCF
0x0BAD
0x0BA3
0x0B6E

Not so bad, isn't it ?

So...

- Write Module ID=01 and restart the drive : ok
- after restart HDD fail to identify, but functionality for module recording by ID will be available : only ROM module writing is available
- write remaining modules : rom modules, ok, but others ?
- sleep command is not present (only standby)
- force normal mode on donnor : LDR needed
- try to force write module : 02 and 03 ok, 04 fails...

- try with or without average microjogs, idem...

For safety, I write back all modules from donor to donor...

I'm trying ROYL process now...

And it fails.

Same thing happen.

drive is ready after hotswap, but unc errors.

you must be right on Module 32.

Your advice is to relocate 32 on patient ?

Maybe you didnt transfer translator information and you could have data shifts. Can you check MBR data at sector '0' - this will allow you to check if HS works correctly, allows checking to see if surface can be read, and allows you to manually verify MBR data is good.

@rezafarah : I copy/paste here the hotswap method worked for me :
- boot a donor drive
- put it to sleep
- swap the pcb to the bad drive without powering the drive off
- Do recalibration
- read the modules of the bad drive that way.
- When you have the necessary modules like translator, etc ... you copy those to the donor drive with his own pcb
- power of/on donor
- put it to sleep
- swap the pcb to the bad drive without powering the drive off
- do recalibration

@AJ : I have access to 0 Sector. But if I try some other sectors (max ie), I hear heads and drive hangs.
Is it a good idea to regenerate translator after hotswap, or not ?

according to colors, I only put this modules for hotswap :
31,36,03,40,41,42,43,49,4A,4D,50,51,52,53

thanks
