ST3808110AS Unable To Load Overlay 01|000A

Postby mekaniq » 20.01.09, 18:52

We have a drive that outputs to terminal as follows:

Interface task reset
4096k x 16 SDRAM
TONKA2 - 1_Disk M-31 02-06-06 14:21
Head Mask FFFF - Switch to full int.
Spin Ready
(P)SATA Reset
Failed sys sect. write
Read Ver Retrys
Read Ver Retrys
Read Ver Retrys
Read Ver Retrys
Read Ver Failure!
Failed sys sect. write
Unable To Load Overlay 01|000A
T>

PCB is good, heads are good. How can we fix firmware to access data?

Unable To Load Overlay 01|000A

This drive has problem with writing to surface. Heads can read but cannot write nessecary data when the drive starts up.
To recover the data you have to find a donor drive and do a head swap. It is possible that heads from one donor will not fit.
Developer advised to try several donors for this case.
With best regards

HS just can help in some case only and not ALL case. it depend.

See this from ACE web for lates update
Seagate

* New possibilities of utility and DE interaction are appended. Now the following actions are available:
1. the second variant of solving "pending problem"
2. SysSect writing blocking while HDD working
3. modification LBA->PCHS through ATA interface
4. soling the problem of impossibility of HDD launching in ATA mode as a result of impossibility of overlay loading ovl1

is this mean can solve the problem of Unable to load overlay 01

Hope sonner this can be covered as well. If we need to change several head set. it is not a good idea caused we face our lucky in this case.

BTW a question to acelab.. When the update will be released, is there got some problem with the beta test. it take very long time for this update ??? Never like this before...

thanks :)

Solution: Just install the new version of PC3KUDMA. :)

I had a drive with this problem after a platterswap. I tried several sets with heads with no luck. All heads was working 100% when they was put back in their home drives.

Run DE and just select the fix for Ovl1

Good work AceLab!!
