WD2500JB-00REA0 is Starling Family and unfortunately this is the problem with heads. This HDD has maximum capacity 250 Gb on six heads.
How to check heads you can read in manual of PC-3000: part WD, page 27, chapter 7.3.2 "Malfunction of drive heads and preamplifier-commutator".

But for data recovery from this HDD need read data from all heads, that is why it necessary to replace HSA from good donor HDD the same model: WD2500JB-xxRExx, where x - is unimportant symbol.

Replacement 6 heads is quite difficult procedure.

Hi Vadim

Shure is very difficult to change Heads, but we have anytime succesfull done wit WD 500GB (8 HEADs)

Tank you for your fast and competent answer!
I have another WD2500JB-00REA0, but this came from Malysia and is black. The patient Drive is from Thayland, do you now, is there the same MHA?
best regards

Hi Bruno!

I recommend to try to find Malysia HDD and in the best way if S/N is the nearest. But it is in the ideal case of course. The same manufacture will be enough.

Good luck,
Vadim

I had that problem once when a costumer swapped the original PCB from the drive.
Are you sure that's original PCB?

I used to think so but our experience tells us that DCM on the label HDD not always correct describe HDA. That is why we check the following:

1. The same model/families;
2. The same head map;
3. The same factory is desirable.

I agree with datalabace. If version of PCB and SA are different then will be the same situation. Second reason, may be from problem with ATA overlay module. This module may be damage by logic although check sum, header and other things are OK.

For data recovery use HOT-SWAP method but don't forget to prepare donor drive translator.

Hi datalabace, and all Helpers

You are on the right way. The Client sent now the original PCB to me.
This PCB is completely death. No Status-LED in PC3000UDMA are lighting.
Normal or Same Mode same nothing.

So, im solve the problem by unsolder the ROM-Chip from defect PCB and solder it to the good one.
All the data could be recovered.

Thanks all
Bruno
