WD60EAAZ-22BLVB0 (PCB 810051) SED unlock problem

Postby AT3000_user » 13.12.24, 02:40

Hello friends,

I have a WD60EAAZ-22BLVB0 drive that becomes ready and displays the complete ID. There's no clicking sound. However, the user area is not accessible.
Any attempt to read a secotr results in an ABR error. Because it is a SED-locked drive, access to the ROM and service area is restricted.
I read the ROM with a programmer and unlocked it using PC3000 version 7.5.10, the most recent version.
It said "ulocked" and saved the ulocked version. However, when I write the unlocked ROM and attempt to access SA, it says drive is SED locked :(
As to the ROM info, drive family is VENICERP and is not officially supported by PC3000.

My question is, can this drive be unlocked using ROM and accessed the SA?

In a search, I came by a website selling an unlocked PCB for this drive (2060-810051). It states that you simply copy the patient ROM to the unlocked PCB. Does this mean that the SED unlocking of this PCB must be done somewhere other than the ROM itself?
I can upload the original ROM here if someone could please unlock it in a way that works. PC3000 SED unlocking did not work for me.

Hello friends,

Since I didn't get any response to my questions, I tried again and found the answers and solution . I'm going to share it with you. It might be useful if you ever run into the same issue in the future.
I was considering purchasing a 2060-810051-xxx unlocked PCB to use, but first I searched my own stock and found the 2060-810011 unlocked PCB, which I purchased a while back. I took a chance and wrote the patient ROM image on this PCB. Mount it on the patient's drive and it worked like a charm:) There was no need to unlock ROM.
It was easy from there. To gain access to the user data, I could backup resources and repair a minor FW issue.

You can use 810011 to unlock the PCB instead, or use software other than UDMA to decrypt the ROM
