Platter alignment

Postby ITServiceReiter » 03.01.23, 18:38

I was wondering if there is some way to determine which HDDs need exact platter alignment and which ones doesn't.

If the platters and heads are ok and just the motor is the problem, swapping them as a whole stack with some scotch tape normally works fine. But if the Platters need inspection, how do you handle that?

Kind regards

d_d_recovery, thanks for sharing the post, that's a good starting point. But seems like there is still a lot of research to be done.

I was hopeing there would be some sort of logic which HDDs need alignment and which don't but this looks like trial and error is the only way to go.
Once I finde time to do some testing, I will contribute as well.
