In todays case I'm reading a WD WD30NMVW 3TB USB drive using the USB interface but I'm often faced with 3 read options and not sure which to choose with different devices.
Options:
1. Use SCSI read sectors command
2. ATA read sectors ext (0x24) through SCSI ATA translation.
3. Use VSC read sectors
Do I just use whichever one seems to work?
In this particular case, I chose "Use ATA read sectors ext (0x24) through SCSI ATA translation".
It reads but its slow.
Which to use when?
Can I try different options on the same taks?
Thanks

Re: USB WD WD30NMVW 3TB reading option
Have done a lot of testing and concluded, any USB drive slow or failing - always convert to SATA, USB is unstable.
The 5 min. extra work for SATA conversion is worth it.

digitalsupport, That may be the case most of the time but with this model, it reads terribly or not at all with the SATA PCB 800022-002 on it.
Not sure why. Through USB it would read steady but slow which would likely take 2 months.

Re: USB WD WD30NMVW 3TB reading option
digitalsupport, I did a slow responding in RAM and it seems to respond much better now!
I wasnt sure if I could do it on this model without causing problems.

Re: USB WD WD30NMVW 3TB reading option
Reads much better but data seems to be encrypted. Scanning for and applying either of the two optiosn found, decryption still does not work.
Do I have to uncheck the SED under security subsection?

Re: USB WD WD30NMVW 3TB reading option
I managed to get things going by slow responding with the SATA PBC and then swapping back in the USB PCB. Works good now.
Unlocked SATA PCB seems to be difficult to work with on this model.

Re: USB WD WD30NMVW 3TB reading option
Now with the latest PC3000 update I would read ROM from USB PCB, unlock ROM and write it back. then connect SATA connector to USB pcb.
