You can power it via USB, but more handy to connect SATA power from PC3000 directly.
Thread is from back in 2017 when it was harder to get a matching SATA PCB, if a conversion is needed today I like these boards

Hi Digitalsupport,
Can you send a link to this PCB?
Thank you,
Brian

300ddr, so whats the point of the USB port on that board you linked? Is it to power the few components of this PCB?

It's an easier way to change the PCB from USB to SATA. Put board OVER USB board, after removing clock+capacitors you just solder the 6 points (ground, power, data).

I just realized your link was also a video.
In that video he still has a USB cable connected to the micro connector on the drive for some reason and he's also not using either of the USB connectors on the addon PCB.
i ordered one to check out.

The most recent version has wires for power (from SATA to USB PCB), so no need for powering from the USB port (the old way; though USB is still there as an option if you want to power from USB instead of SATA). It will all make more sense when you get it (it did for me).

I got the adapter...It makes it much easier to solder with most of the annoying connections already made for you on one side. Good suggestion, Thanks 300ddr.

For some reason now though, the drive won't spin, but it does if I just use the plain original USB PCB on it.
The 12V register lights up green while the 5V register goes red.

With the China adapter on, if I remove the soldered 5V and GND, and use the Native Micro USB for power, it spins up fine. I may have received a faulty adatper.

Hum -- I've had no issues so far. You're soldering 5V to the COM port solder location, right? Did you remove the crystal?

yes, I removed the crsytal.
I'm using only 2 wires for power, the +5V and the GND and it's wired accoring to the attached picture.

Hum... not sure why. But, at least you can power from USB.

Would using the E71, E72 E73, 75 etc along with the USB 3.0 connector cause any conflicts on the data side? Which takes precedence for data, USB or SATA? Both can work at the same time? :)

I just tested the +5 and GND with a multimeter on the PC-3000 and got nothing looks like the adapters power side is toast.

I think removing the crystal disables USB data. Don't quote me tho.

Hate to renew an old post but does anyone know why you have to remove the clock now with the four capacitors? Is it necessary? Also, these are kinda pricey but no soldering necessary https://www.hddheadtools.com/product-ca ... onnectors/
