Hi,
Does anybody know if there is a way to edit the Read Retry Count value on WD drives like in Samsung and Seagate drives?
Thanks.

Re: WD Read Retry Count
Did you try standard ATA commands to do so ? I never tested it so i don't know but i might try it later.

Re: WD Read Retry Count
There are standard ATA command to disable retries. Command "EF" with 33 ate error/feature register. Don't have a clue if WD for some reason will reject the command but i can try.

Re: WD Read Retry Count
Ok the standard ATA command to disable retries don't work on my 2.5 test WD drive but there is a Vendor Specific Command to disbale hidden retries ...

I think you confusing "Read Look Ahead" with "Read Retries Count"
Theoretically there could be a "Read Retries Count" in features part in module 02 but I'm not sure, some digging required.

Not confusing them both :
STANDARD ATA :
SET - Disable Retries=33 00 00 00 00 00 EF 00 00
SET - Disable Read Look-Ahead=55 00 00 00 00 00 EF 00 00
Standard ATA to disable retries don't work on my WD test drives. Some "Chinese" piece of software that i have does have a VSC to disable "hidden" retries. Don't have a clue about what it does as i did never tested it.
