WD FBlite 500GB Hard Drive Firmware Issue

Postby murtazabawa » 18.06.18, 11:43

Hello,

WD5000BMVW-11AJGS3 stops spinning because of firmware issue.

Any pointers on how to solve it other than HOT SWAP as not having suitable donor.

If it stops spinning and registers still display DSC DRD then it is likley not firmware.
If it stops spinning and ERR register is displayed, then probably it is SA - block SA regions, upload LDR to get SA access then investigate issue with SA modules to try to find cause of this issue

Yes, It stops with ERR.

After LDR upload how to make drive spin again? I tried Re-calibration and spin-up but it does not spin-up again.

Spin up................................. : HDD servo spin up error - Drive is not ready

I am using only 11.rpm permanent overlay. Do I need to use Servo and Transient Overlay as well for this to work?

Well,
Please Block SA Access In This Family Using Old Method And Then Start The Drive .If it Spins Down Still Its one of the heads failed or all failed .If All are failed then replacing heads will help .And if 1 Head is bad you can overcome that using some tricks and getting the drive to id and work again
