Toshiba MQ01ABD BSY

Postby murphman » 01.12.17, 21:44

The drive was originally dropped (heads were bent). I replaced the heads. The drive spins up and sounds like its calibrated (typical sound), drive keeps spinning and not clicking or anything usual however it stays in BSY. Any suggestions what to try?

Have you tried to remove PCB, wait until RDY, issue a spin down command, attach PCB and spin up?

Well,
This is What You Should Try And Also Try Keeping it For Few Minutes Like This Only

Thank you the replies! I tried that.. removed the PCB from the drive and hooked it up by itself .. PCB stays BSY, never gets ready and then just turns off (no BSY light, no anything). If I leave the PCB on the drive it does recognize after maybe 20min but any attempt to read data logically or try to clear smart, backup CP or anything just freezes the drive (stays BSY and RDY). Any other ideas?

PS I tried this with a PCB from the donor and it does the exact same thing, so I dont think its a PCB issue

From Ace blog:

Try to perform the next steps for Service Area access:

1. Turn off the power supply and isolate Heads contacts on PCB.
2. Turn on the power supply. Now disk BUSY.
3. Perform Soft reset (F7), if it doesn’t help then perform Hard reset (F8).
4. Now drive get a ready state. Then perform Sleep (Standby) comamnd. Go to “Tools” -> “HDD” -> “Standby”
5. Remove isolator from Heads contacts. Set PCB back to HDD and try to read Drive ID.
6. Re-launch utility.
7. Create backup, clear G-list and check the users area access.
