WD5000LMVW reading problem

Postby protontech » 08.09.17, 14:43

Hy everybody
I got an external WD5000LMVW-11VEDS0 drive with 2060-771949-000 REV P1 pcb, from usb pc3k cannot identify it. I swapped the pcb with 2060-771959-000 REV A. It can earn ready state (about 20 sec), autodetect OK and come up in normal mode. After that I recognise the drive switch of it's SA acces on HEAD 1. On copy 0 all modul are OK. I recovered head 0 fully without any error while reading, but head i couldn't read anything. It isn't trying read just show each sector bad. I switch head from a same drive, with good head 1 and weak head 0. After that it also earn ready and comes up in normal mode but head 1 still didn't read. I swap head again from a WD5000LPVX-75V0TT0 ( I find a description on forum, it can be good donor) each 2 head is good! Now the drive also earn ready state, comes up normal mode, isn't any audible sound, has SA acces in each head,. I saved all modul and track from head 1 and the modules are also good but the drive still don't read any sector on HEAD 1. I trying regenerate rom and write it to the drive but it isn't solve the problem so I write back the original,I tried slow responding but still no succes. In sector editor Head 1 give UNC error. Head0 still reading good.

In DE head 1 isn't trying read sectors just show all of them as BAD

I will be very gratefull if anyone can give me advice or any procedur which can help me.

No, I mean, if you install the donor heads back in donor and read by head 1, will it read?

It can read, I test it. And now I checked the donor HDD also can read with the original head 1. I think the problem is maybe in rom because first the HDD come up with only head0 SA acces and i think it is deactivate the head1, i see remove head option but not show any deactivated head, and it isn't try read just show every sector as bad. There isn't 9 small squer int the top right corner where usualy show the reading trys. It just step sectors and show all of them as bad.
