Difference between DCM in 3.5 WD

Postby osity » 23.06.17, 20:48

Why do some 3.5" drives have 9 DCM digits and others have 10?
I have a re certified patient drive that has 9 digits....alot of the donors have 10 digits.... but perhaps the extra digit at the end doesn't play a roll....

All you need to be concerned about for finding a donor for heads is the letter 2 or J and whatever letter is just preceding that. So you'll always be matching a code like TJ or T2 for example.

Good enough!
In my case it seems like the letters are VJ.
It's a recertified 3 TB drive. The ones you mentioned are quite common. Are things more wonky when dealing with a re-certified drive for parts?

I am still having trouble finding a drive with VJ in the DCM. Any advice on other compatibles that many work?

You are probably trying to match too many specs to your drive. That's why you're not finding it.

You just need same family, VJ in DCM, and preferably the same site and a close date.

Post a picture of your drive and perhaps we can help you match it.

I have used a V2 donor for a T2 patient so you might have some luck with a TJ. Let us know if it works.

It's a refurb drive with white label.

I'm simply trying to match VJ in any 3TB drive. I can't seem to find any drives with it.
I have tried blizzards suggestion of using TJ donor but it was not a successful match.

The donor replacement heads worked fine when I put them back into the donor drive after the attempt....

Let me repeat myself.

You can't use just "any 3Tb drive" it must be of the same family. If you'd just post a picture I'd bet I can find you a donor in 5 minutes flat.

The full model number was a match. Have you ever had a model number the same but it belonged to a different family? That would be odd.
Sorry didn't have my phone yesterday. Here's the pic. I found a donor yesterday but it was hundreds of dollars. I'm looking for a better lower cost option.

Here's the picture.

Data medics, I noticed on your forum that you were putting together a cross reference list that could potentially cross reference families in the future. Any idea what other models belong to Diablo3D?

Me? I almost never buy donors from expensive DR HDD suppliers, unless I consider the price to be reasonable.

I still haven't found a - donor for this. DD has one for around 350USD. That's ridiculous. Any recommendations?

Some other Diablo 3D drives include:

WD30EFRX-68AX9N0 (or any other AX9 code)
WD30EURS-63SPKY0 (or any other SPK code)
WD 30EZRX-00DC0B0 (or any other DC0B0)

And, while I've never yet tried it, I suspect that Diablo 3S family may be cross-compatible. The ariel density is slightly different, but close enough they might use the same heads.
