This WD10JMVW USB Drive came from another lab and they forgot to resintall the U12 when they gave it back to the client long ago.
Is there any way to proceed with this job without it?

Why not contact the other lab directly for the saved ROM file or ask the client to make the request for you?
Re: WD10JMVW PCB missing U12 after coming from another lab
Yeah that's a possibility. The chip is likely gone but maybe they have it saved.... and if they didn't?
The platter is also pretty butchered on this one so its not looking good.

Well,
Adapting rom is not a big deal ,Platters could be a problem

Many WD's store a backup of the ROM modules in the SA (though I actually don't think that model does), so you can rebuild the ROM from the SA data. I think that's what Amarbir was talking about.
For the ones where you can't rebuild from SA, you'd need to search through as many same Rev ROM's you can find and hope to get lucky.

Sounds like a nice ability but how would you rebuild the ROM form the SA if you can't access the SA.... because of the missing original ROM?

Re: WD10JMVW PCB missing U12 after coming from another lab
in my case I am converting the USB interface to SATA which seemed to also change the detected family.
The drive is a wd10jmvw-11ajgs4 which I believe is FBlite. With the new PCB 771959 the drive auto detects as Shrek LT.
Which family's resources should I work with when following the blog?

Well,
Its saying shark Lt cos that rom you are using in 959 data board has that rom its not the rom thats fblite .So if this is the rom that lab has sent you then sir thats the wrong rom .You will have to update your database with as many fblite roms you can find and then help to adapt the new rom best to your drive .Sherk Lt has 8 heads and this one has 4 its totally different drive .I can nail such a case in flat 30 minutes to 1 hour .Please follow the article -> http://blog.acelab.eu.com/pc-3000-f ... l-rom.html
PS : Hopefully Acelab will also reward some people like us and data medics who take out time to reply and help everyone to the best of their ability

On a FBlite a "close ROM" will not help you to gain SA access.
From what I know, very few people can help you and reconstruct 4F, expect it to be very expensive.
Normaly when client gets a price estimate, the "missing" pcb suddenly shows up
