Apple MBA 2012 SSD

Postby lcoughey » 10.02.17, 15:27

Although it is SandDisk branded 512GB SSD, it is using the common Marvel 88SS9174-BLD2 controller. Is this completely messed up by Apple locked downs or is there anything that can be done with PC3K SSD?

Typical symptoms. Gets stuck at BSY as soon as any commands are sent to the the SSD.

Sandisk drives based on Marvell CPU have different Firmware, modified by Apple. Right now we can deal only with few models of Apple drives - based on Samsung 470 and 830 CPU.

Problem not in absence of this models in our lab, problem in very wired structure of internal Firmware in this models. Also, all new Apple drive change their interface 1-2 times per year, and their latest modifications does not include SATA controller, so it's impossible to use APPLE SSD to SATA adapter for plugging them. We need new hardware tool for reading such drives.
