WD 3TB green WD30EZRX not spinning

Postby osity » 13.09.16, 22:30

The drive came in opened by the user.

Spindle is free but it won't spin when powered. I hear 3 faint ticks..(likely from the motor?)
Changed the PCB with adaptives and still nothing.
If I isolate the HSA the drive does spin.

Would bad heads prevent this model from spinning?

That's kinda annoying. No opportunity to modify headmaps...

You can, you just need to upload LDR, modify head map, then soft-reset. But usually if it's refusing to spin there's a really failed head (shorted) which might by physically mangled or missing. Make sure you inspect the heads well before powering in on and messing around anymore.

inspected HSA... plenty of debris on H0, H1, H2.
I've never had that prevent spinnup though, time for some heads.
Appreciate the input!

Interesting, Since it doesnt come ready, I took off the PCB to detect the family and the board is the part that is making the faint ticking sound.... I'm guessing the oscillator is the culprit.... for that sound anyway.....
