"Create virtual translator for ntfs partition" option not present

Postby H3rmes » 23.08.16, 18:07

Hi fellas,

I got a WD with a unrecoverable translator and P-list. regenerated a translator using a blank P-list as there are some heads issues as well and I could not scan the drive for defects.
I have shifts on my copy now and I realised that the "Create virtual translator for ntfs partition" that used to present on the PCI version is not on my new UDMA. Has it been moved? It used to be useful for finding shifts points automatically.

If anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.

I see there's a "create virtual translator" option when you set up a task in DE, but to be honest I've never really played with it much. Have you tried reading the P-list via composite read? Usually that'll work and provides a much better solution.

Yes, when you create task you can select task with virtual translator.

To define shift you can use FAT tables or MFT records (some advanced users look into superblocks). For example you can scan MFT table on NTFS partition, apply filter for JPEG files, and based header control infomation define location of shift.
Then you can find real location of JPEG file via raw recovery, calculate difference between these two values and define shift lenth.

This value you can recond in table of shirts.

Hi Data Medics thanks for the reply, Yes the task starts with "create virtual translator" but there used to be another "create virtual translator for ntfs partition" when righ clicking the mbr. That used to find shift point automatically. Have a look at this acelabs training video: http://update.acelab.ru/videopub/NTFStranslator_Eng.exe

Also P-list and translator are completely toast on both copies. There isn't even one bit of hex left intact no matter how I read. I had to relocate the modules.

Hi Dmitrly,
I've been doing this for each and every file for hours. I was hoping for and automatic search for shifts that I used to have like in this acelabs training video: http://update.acelab.ru/videopub/NTFStranslator_Eng.exe

There has to be someone out there who knows where this feature went. It used to scan a partition and automatically assign shift points. It's even in the manual and training material but not in my UDMA DE which is a newer version. IT would be a nightmare to manually find all shift points for my partition.

Is there at least any place I can download the older version that had this feature. My update box only has the new version.
