With this SSHD drive they use a mode of operating in which data is written to the NAND aswell as the media. There is a copy of the ROM embedded there and some firmware overlays - this is why it is not possible to use a donor PCB as the donor NAND will contain a copy of the donor ROM and the copy at the NAND will always boot as a priority over the information inside the actual ROM. If your drive powers at all then the PCB is probably OK. You should look at the terminal output at Brian suggested, this will give you a better idea of where the problem lies, but with clicking and shutting down its likely its bad heads.

Donor PCB should be taken from one with same FW version as patient, if not then NAND structures will be different. You then need to flood drive with information so that NAND gets flushed and allows reloading of patient ROM into NAND.

So how exactly do you perform this? A nice write up on the subject would be much appreciated by all of us who've never needed to replace one of these PCB's before.
