What are the symptoms when you power the drive.

Re: Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 INIT prob
When disk start it clicks few times but quietly and status registers are up DRD and DSC. And when I hit autodetect or tried manualy error register is up and ABR register is up, no hdd id.
Re: Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 INIT prob
You are using the wrong utility. This disk is supported in Hitachi/IBM utility under custom families.
Re: Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 INIT prob
I found the model in custom list but still no HDD ID. What to try next?

More than likely the heads are the problem here.

Re: Hitachi HTS545032B9A300 INIT prob
I just had a HTS725032A9A364 come in today returning this exact same error message. No clicking, got ready really quickly, but no SA access, can't read modules directory, etc.
Changed heads, and am now imaging at 104Mb/s.

Yes, basically it's a Heads issue.
But sometimes drive has been in other DR lab (before your) and now it have a not original PCB...
So, one more little trick is check S/N in NVRAM editing window and compare it with S/N on the HDD label.
