The disk is imaging OK. However, Data Extractor is reading some data from the Flash buffer on the donor PCB which is creating pseudo logical data. The patient HDD only has EXT4 filesystem on it, and with the donor PCB I am picking up traces of NTFS partitions, with a date modified of the date on which I ordered the donor HDD (i.e. a few days after the patient HDD was received in for recovery).

Does anyone know how to flush out the Flash buffer. My attempts to do this have not yet been successful.

Best regards,
J

I've sorted out the best way to clear the buffer now, and I'm only getting the correct EXT4 filesystem which should exist on this SSHD. I'm finishing in the office shortly, so just going to get the device imaging for recovery. When this is complete I will write up a method on what was done.

1: reading the original disk ROM
2: Read spare ROM
3: Load Spare disk ROM
4: Replace CAP RAP SAP
5: Load LOD, this process fails, wait one minute, do not de-energized.
6: re-power, again loaded LOD.
7: Start copying data

Thank you for this procedure.

Could you share with us your results?

Dimitry Sir ,
Why should this work .Is this what he is trying to tell us

1 : We Read Patient ROM
2 ; Read Donor ROM
3 : Load Donor ROM He Means Right
4 : Replace CAP RAP SAP ( Where In Patient Or Donor ,Possibly He Means To Say From Patient To Donor )
5 : Load LOD [ LOD of Patient or Donor Very Confusing ]
6 : Re Power Again [ Load LOD Again Same Question LOD of Patient or Donor ]
7 : Copy Data Why Not But Understanding above procedure is necessary

Sir ,
By Buffer Flushing Are you Referring To NAND Flash Cleaning So That You Get Data Of Platter Only .

Hi Avalanche,

Did you manage to get a good image. We still have a ST500LM000 drive here with no spin. Have you a process to overcome issue.

Regards John

Sorry, I had been meaning to write this up, then Easter came. I will get round to it asap, but the technique used is pretty much Amarbir has written with a couple of extra bits. The difficulty is donor part compatibility - the criteria is not what you might normally expect. The donors I used (and other SSHDs) are currently on loan at another UK data recovery company as they were really struggling to get spares on a disk they had in. I might have another SSHD or two in stock; I should run through the process with these again. Just a matter of trying to find time....

1 : First Read ROM of the PATIENT Drive / RECOVERY Drive and SAVE

2 ; Secondly Read the ROM of the DONOR Drive ( WOrking and having similar FW code as Patient Drive ) and SAVE.
Also SAVE Loader of the Donor Drive

3 : Now Start your Patient drive with the PCB of Donor Drive.

4 : Now in Utility go to work with "Flash ROM Image file" and Load Donor ROM and then Replace CAP RAP SAP from Patient ROM
Write / Save this Hybrid ROM to the same PCB which is currently connected to the Patient Drive.
Power cycle it should work.
