Make data copy in multiple passes

Postby rogaland » 07.10.15, 12:04

If I stop a "Copy data to a different drive"-job (LBA to LBA), and I want to run it again, but only attempt to copy sectors that did not succeed in the first pass, is there a setting somewhere that will make it skip already copied sectors?

Once the sectors are marked green, I dont think it will touch those again.

What would be ideal is an option to clear map of unread sectors or sectors read with error at first pass so that the reading can be attempted again with separate set of read parameters in a second pass - unfortunately I do not think there is an option for this without a custom script which would need to be created by someone with good knowledge of this.

Maybe this is something Acelab can look into for us? :D

Umm..... I'm pretty sure you just go to "Service > Clear Map" then check the boxes that are the error ones and let it clear the map. It'll leave the green ones and only clear the black, red, yellow, etc. You can also use the "Service > Create Submap Using the Legend" option to target just a certain type of sectors.

Yes, but this is a manual step. If you set a task running with multiple passes, first pass would have low timeouts and high jump sizes for example, while second pass would have higher timeouts and lower jumps and maybe a separate read parameters. The aim of this would be to have a first pass to read all good blocks quickly, then a second more intense pass to read problematic sectors. Unfortunately, any blocks marked UNC or ABR at first pass cannot be cleared prior to second pass starting without manual intervention. To automate this we would need some script that runs between alternate passes starting.

I just tried to read UNC sectors in DE with several passes now (to get UNC sectos I put unwanted defect in NRGL on Seagate F3 and regen translator). These UNC sectors are unreabable at first pass. But utility tries to read UNC sectors at second pass.

Do I understand you correct? Maybe you mean something other?
