The PC power supply took some sort of hit. The drive starts up with normal sounds, comes ready, but no ID. F3 utility needs to be started with alternate initialization method. At this point using tools/utility extensions/service information objects all system files appear to be readable but, although they're all listed, no service modules can be read. Heads test passes; translator appears to be loaded. Looks to be a firmware issue but I can't be sure yet. Any direction on this would be appreciated. Terminal startup:
Boot 0x10M
Spin Up[0x00000000][0x0000B67C][0x0000BA10]
Trans.
Rst 0x10M
MC Internal LPC Process
Spin Up
(P) SATA Reset

Re: Seagate ST500DM0002 problem
Problem solved after I noticed that system file 346 was damaged. Copied it from another drive with close firmware version and all is now well.
Thanks to AJ2008 for his input.
