I have a 1TB WD10JMVW with integrated USB 3.0 connector

Logic Board number 2060-771801-002 Rev A

Is there a standard SATA board I can swap this out for to make it easier for data recovery?

Hi Mark,

You need to use PCB with code '771823' - you can find one on Firebird SATA such as WD10JPVT-55A1YT0 (A1YT = determines family).

The equivalent SATA needs to have same motor controller (WD NAUTILUS) and same MCU (88i9346-TFJ2)

I have found two drives in my collection that have 771823 as the number, but the SATA board only has one BIOS IC of a different connection style than the USB board, have not checked for same controller etc though.

I have found an identical USB board so I am currently swapping both BIOS IC's to try data recovery.

It is fine, the ROM chip can vary from a standard 'fat' chip with 8 legs externally, to a 'flat' ROM chip with no visible legs as contacts are underneath - both are interchangeable and will work after transferred.

But if my USB board has two BIOS IC's, which one do I transfer to the SATA logic board that only has one BIOS IC?

At the USB PCB there will be 2 x IC chips, one at U12 and one at U14. The U12 is the ROM you need to transfer, the U14 is ROM info for the USB bridge. This is not important to us when transferring ROM, only U12 is important.

If they are the same family, then yes they can be cross-compatible for heads (obviously with matching DCM, preamp, etc.). I almost always pull heads from SATA drives to use for USB Passport and Elements cases.

Data Medics, So when you find the SATA equivalent, it's always the same family? I believe I've used a SATA equivalent once but i don't remember if it was the same family. It must have been.
I have been using USB drives most of the time, not the cheapest, easiest route...

If you source Some new data drive in 500 gb capacity you will notice they are Hubble LT and 1Tb Are Fblite Family ,Hence You Can Use These To Swap Heads In USB Drives Of Same Family ,Works Like a Charm

No,
I am saying that if you do a recovery of a USB 500 GB these days its the hubble LT and hubble LT in SATA is Also Available And We Can use that to change heads of usb hubble lt .Ditto for fblite
