WD 1TB KERMIT Problem

Postby odedshankar » 15.07.14, 05:51

Hi guys,

I need you assistance in a case i am struggling with.
I have got a WD10EADS-00L5B1 Which stays busy - sounds like a FW issue no aggressive heads movement.
Drive stays busy ans restart after a while.

Things i did:
1. hot swap with a donor drive - I managed to backup all the resources of the patient drive successfully. without any problems went smoothly.
2. i tried to rewrite the modules after SA format but still got same problem.
3. i regenerated new ROM from the extracted modules and wrote to a donor PCB - same thing.
3. swapped the heads from the donor drive - still getting same thing.

Any suggestions?
I suspect it is something with the module DIR read which fails, how do i change start address of DIR module on platters and ROM?

IT stays BSY for some time, then spins down with register 'ERR' only?

It could be a number of causes but is SA related.

Most simplest way to reach data is to make HotSwap but you should not write all modules, only adaptive modules to donor. But there is possibility that Zone table is bad, if this is the case then hotswap wont be possible.
