Hi Folks,
I've got a wd10tmvw-11zsms4 1TB 2.5" USB drive from a customer today - customer says nothing happened to it just stopped working.
Drive makes noises as if the heads are damaged.
I opened it up in a clean room and didn't see any damage not on the heads and not on the platters.
I didn't have an exact donor but i have the SATA version PCB drive: WD10TPVT.
I executed hotswap using WD10TPVT SATA drive and found the heads to work find and i managed to backup the whole SA with all modules.
I suspect that the ROM on the original PCB is corrupted.
What is the best and easiest way to regenerate the ROM out of the saved modules?
I've tried to click re-generate ROM after SA backup and it gives me the option to choose 109,102,etc.
But then when i choose them the utility prints that these modules are empty????
How can i do it?
Please advise,
WD wd10tmvw-11zsms4 ROM regeneration

Re: WD wd10tmvw-11zsms4 ROM regeneration
109 - this has ROM backup inside it. Save this module and select option 'ROM build from SA data' then make ROM.BIN from 109.RPM
Next, with SATA PCB connected in Kernel mode, write this new ROM.bin. Repower, then proceed to write ROM modules from some resource from same family with same headmap. Hopefully you should have some in your database
After this, repower, and you should get ID.
You need to consider logical ROM size also. Natively can be 256KB or 512KB, but in SATA variant you have probably is 256KB.

Re: WD wd10tmvw-11zsms4 ROM regeneration
Hi Mate,
I have got the 109 bin but i am missing the ROM modules for this drive, don't have it in DB.
Any chance you've got it.
ROM version is: 0008000F but i guess some close version will do the job too if you have it.
Cheers

There are a few here:
http://files.hddguru.com/download/PC-30 ... ty/Helios/
SA version does not need to match 100% for ROM modules
