WD5000AAKS-65YGA0

Postby pclab » 12.12.13, 11:06

Hi

I can't understand well what's happening whit this drive.

After power on, the HDD clicks and spins down, but it get's RDY but no ID.
I enter into Kernel mode, do a RAM Head Map (it's 2,3,4,5,6,7), select all as 2.
I do a soft reset, and after ID the drive, wich get's detected well.
I change the head map again to 2,3,4,5,6,7, exit kernel mode and enter normal mode.
The drive works fine after. No problems on sector view, heads OK, all modules OK.
But if I power off an on again, the same happens.
Is this a ROM error?
Thanks

It means that even though head is able to read surface, there is some error reported during POST.

Usually after heads change in Tornado we see this behavior.

Im not sure, I work with recovery and once is stable and data is reached this is all I need. Maybe you can up DAC values, this could help, but otherwise hotswap or edit heads map in RAM for access to data

Hi AJ

I as well, just want the data.
I have already imaged the drive with DDI and 100% recovered.
I just wanted to know what was this problem.

Thank You
