Postby hddr49 » 20.09.13, 14:49

Hi there,

I had a 5400.6 with error :

Code: Select all

LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47

I tried several times procedure with shortpin, here the terminal log :

Code: Select all

Rst 0x08M
ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>
ASCII Diag mode
(repeat those 2 lines numbers of times)

F3 T>
RW cmd 002F req = 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 00 00 A0 E1
            opts = 00000000

RW Err = 84150180

Input Command Error

F3 T>
ASCII Diag mode
(repeat those 2 lines numbers of times)

F3 T>
ESLIP mode

LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47
LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47
LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47

and in the log window :

Code: Select all

Test  : Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"
HDD power supply switching OFF/ON...
Spin Up...
Drive not ready

My pc3k version is 4.9.2

What should I do next ?

Are you isolating PCB correctly? Do you know manual commands to prevent utility from giving timeout error?

Thank you for your answer.

With the shortpin method, we do not have to isolate PCB, do we ?

I don't know manual commands to prevent timeout

Shorting will rarely work here.

Also, you need to be sure about your conclusion with it. Are you sure it has translator issue? Are you aware of issues such as NRG list?

You need to isolate PCB, not short. After spinup with reattached HDD you need to check at terminal if NRG is empty or if it has entries. If it does, record them and manually put to slip list once repair is completed.

Regarding timeouts, probably if you do procedure correctly you will not experience timeouts

The isolation method doesn't work either.

It seems all ok, but in the end, an error LED 00cc occured before i can type ctrl+z F3> V40 to see NRG list.

here is the terminal output when I do the solution for drive Lock / isolating spindle motor contact :

Code: Select all

Rst 0x08M

RW cmd 002F req = 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 00 00 A0 E1

            opts = 00000000

RW Err = 84150180

ESLIP mode

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>
ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>

LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47

LED:000000CC FAddr:00271D47

and in the log part :

Code: Select all

Test  : Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"

Switching HDD power supply OFF

Switching HDD power supply ON
COM port reconnection...
Spin Up...
Drive not ready

Next idea ? perhaps swap pcb ?

Thanks for your helps

You need to retain terminal access. Best way for this is isolate PCB completely, usually you should retain T>. You cant try to short, but for me mostly I get T> after isolate PCB on 5400.6.

Also, you try automated solution but with this there are timeout limitations inside the utility.

Many tries, no result for now.

I try with PCB completly out of the disk, but nothing more.

I have the F3 T> but whatever i use, this bring me to error led 000000cc

I try to find the old manual procedure, but in the new pdf manuals there is only automated one.

In my old printed manual, there is no section for F3 disks.

Maybe another issue :

I try a manual process.

- isolate pcb when power off
- power on,

Code: Select all

Rst 0x08M
RW cmd 002F req = 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 18 F0 9F E5 00
 00 A0 E1
            opts = 00000000

RW Err = 84150180

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>/2

F3 2>Z

Spin Down Complete
Elapsed Time 0.123 msecs
F3 2>

remove isolator, rescrew...

Code: Select all

F3 2>U

DiagError 00006008
Spin Error
Elapsed Time 17.426 secs
R/W Status 2 R/W Error 84150180
F3 2>

So, no spin up...

A rapid search give me Roustam Answer :
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=6613
Seagate utility developer suggested next steps for this case:
1. Check the drive in clean room for head stuck and platter scratches
2. Get a donor drive and test the spindle motor and commutator contacts with multimeter(you can compare patient's values with donor's). If spindle motor dies-platter swap is the way.Change whole head stack for bad commutator.
3. If the heads stack and spindle motor are good, then you may try to resolder the NV-Ram chip. It is the 8-pin chip with 25U42xxxxx signature. You can see it in the right bottom corner on st2.jpg .

Many thanks for your helps, I will check all this.

I think I should buy a silent ATX

When short circuit, I ear the knocking sounds and (i think) spin up, but now, I doubt of myself...

Wait to see head and surface damaged.

I confirm that when I try short circuit method, the drive spin up

Surface is not damaged

My convincing is that head are ok too.
I look for motor issue, but values are ok too.

So, the damaged pcb is my best way for now.

Still looking around and test...
