Head Compatability in Seagate F3

Postby Imnew » 09.09.13, 17:53

Dear Acelab,
Please mention the details for Head compatability in F3 drives. What should we look for in the donor. The same is not mentioned in manual anywhere. It will be once and for all users of PC3000 UDMA.

hello
as I know to find compatible HDA you should look for a H.D.D :

1) in exactly same MODEL ( Family )
2) Site Code should be the same
3) FW is not very important
4) it is better to find a hdd with same Date Code but there is no obligation for it .

whenever you need to change HDA , change all the parts of it ( upper and lower Magnets )

best wishes

Thanks a lot for the replay.
But I have read somewhere that 2nd and 3rd digit of the serial no. should match.

You can check it under a microscope.

You would need a good microscope, a good lighting and a good knowledge.

Hello,

Donor drive for Seagate F3 must have the same:
-model,
-head map,
-country (manufacture),

Operation is dependent on good air flow to create pressure that heads can 'float' on. this 'floating' is done by way of specific patterns built to the sliders which gives them aerodynamic properties. This pattern varies between some models, and with different patterns behavior will not be the same.

Not sure specifically what models this affects, ive seen it on 5400.6 series and some slim 7200.12 models also.
