We have been getting in a lot of es2 drives lately that start to initialise and sound as if they are about to and then start to click.
Does anyone else see this problem much and if so, is there a fix? Head exchanges do not seem to work.

Does it get ready state?
Does it show ID?
What does it show in terminal when you turn power on?
Do you have terminal access?
Have you tried to execute solution for LEDCC (you should use method with shorting for such drives)?

Here is one such:
St3500320NS
FW:SN05
Clunking with original heads.
Head exchange done. Now the drive tries to initialise, but does a rapid clicking then stopping, then doing the same again. It continues like this for as long as we keep it powered.
When we put another PCB on it, the drive does the same about 2 times, and then sounds like it has initialised. It becomes ready.
When we enter the utility, it comes up as the default PCB details and around 3.5gb in size. I assume this is because of the different adaptives on the new PCB.
I suspect that the ROM of the original board is corrupt, but do not know.
Is there a way to re-calculate the rom on these drives (like you can on the Hitachi 2.5")?

Unfortunately we can not restore ROM on F3 family yet.
Are you sure that donor heads are compatible? If you can, try to swap heads one more time with other donor.
Have you checked patient heads in the donor?
Maybe platters have scratches?
Also motor can have problems. Check resistance of motor coils and compare it with good similar drive. Check rotation (visually), does it look ok?
