Imaging Hawk with one bad head?

Postby Balvan » 08.01.10, 06:41

I've got a WD2500JS with one head that went bad.

Before it went bad, I was able to read modules & service tracks, and wrote service tracks to donor.

Hawk will not boot after disabling any heads; doing a smart hot swap doesn't seem to work either, if a head is bad.

How can I access and read data from remaining 5 good heads? head map editing does not work on this model. Do I need to modify module 47?

Thanks in advance,

Balvan

I think hotswap will be only option.

Or you should replace the MHA and solve the alignment.
I can do it for you if you interested.

BTW why do you think smart hotswap will not help?

I agree, smart hotswap should be OK if done properly, just need to build head map to avoid access to dead heads.

Also we have a very good method for such problems, even without swapping heads, if that recovery rate is fine with the customer.
But if he wants 100%, we can do head swap no problem.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions.

I guess smart head swap did not work in this case (after head transplant) because of media damage and contamination. But you are indeed correct - it usually will work just fine.
