Strange MAXTOR

Postby steven » 28.03.09, 05:17

Got this drive to Data recovery
Athena POKER 20 GB
drive was detected as ATHENA. seem it is an usuall case but some go strange is here.
after loading loader I can not read any Module from this drive. Drive return to Busy always. and module can not be read. even Module group can not be read too. the conclution is the whole SA can not be read as well. I have try to load severah Loader and still give me the same result. Finally run Hotswap. Also give me the same result. SA can not be read anymore. but when switch to DATA Area. I can read MBR and I can read sector from Data Area. Running Universal Utility. sector verification can be run as well with some bad sector. Why this happen... any body can give a good advice.

thanks

This sounds like a head problem. I had the same thing. I could read the drive but when I wanted to write to the drive it would not allow me to write to the drive. Had the heads changed out and it helped my drive. Maybe checks the heads on this drive that might be your problem.

I have clone this drive with zero translator....virtual translator was done almost 90% to this drive.... I dont think it is head problem since I still can clone this drive as well.....
thanks for your reply... :)

Have you tried HotSwap to get SA access? I would have to say it is head problem. It is simple to rule out also as platter swap on this drive is relatively simple and successful. Maybe there is some surface damage to platter also.

ATHENA are usually very simple to repair, easier than N40P, so where problems like this occur usually it is due to physical damage.

it is not head problem. even Hptswap can not let me access to SA. but DATA area was accessible after Hotswap. I have clone this drive to others working Drive. but since i can not access to SA. So the Data was recoveried was bad translator. I have mange the Translator rebuild from DE. and Thanks God... Data was recovered about 85 %....

what you see is quite typical if you have incorrect loader. You could "Maybe" create loader after hot-swap and then put original PCB on and try loading loader and then check correct loader checksums in menu etc...

hmmm guess you cannot create loader if you have no SA access after hot-swap  (should read all post first)
