6 Maxtor HDD all with firmware problems

Here is where I am at now: Have determined there is a firmware problem on the drive I am trying to rebuild the firmware or correct the problem so I can read the drive: This is what the book told me to do when I needed to correct this problem and fix the firmware of the drive so that it could read from SA again. Following the instructions in the manual on Maxtor on repairing the Firmware problem I have done the following and here are the results with error codes that I have recevied when preforming these procedures.

Started HDD in safe mode
Entered Utility Start and selected Auto Repair - "In book says that firmeware problems is due to loader and you will need to repair this problem"
Before I selected loader start I went to Alt+T to check my timeout parameter and set it to 15 sec.
Entered Utility
Stat loader of Program A
I selected my loader file from data base cause can't select it from HDD
I selected the loader and selected it to load ROM
Received message LDR file loading OK
It then said that I needed to Load the Overlays
Repeated the process and selected from data base and selected the same Loader I just finished installing and got the ROM to load OK
This time I received an error message Access Violation at address 0241E9EE in module PCMaxtor.dll read of address 0000000I then tried another one and tried to load the overlays and received a second error - ROM error loading Firmware ABR
I could not get the over lays to load. The drive is now in an error state
Selected Reset HDD and did an off/on of the drive to bring it back to ready state
After I selected HDD ID reading and received the message Identivication has been readI still do not have a serial number showing on the display, My firmware version is identical to the ROM SA but it ends in an Z which in the 'book states that something prevented the loader overlays from loading.'

How am I to get the loader overlays to load when all I receive is error messages when trying to load them. I can get the ROM to load but not the overlays.

What should I do now because from here it does not really tell me where to go or what to do next to try and get the overlays to load on this hard drive. I have many Maxtor drives here at the moment that all have the same problem on them. I have a total of 6 drives all with the same error codes and same problems on all of them. I have a problem with the LAB and SMART on all the drives.

Poehere,

Try loading the overlays one at a time so you can see which one is causing the problem.

The other thing to try is a hotswap. Then check the firmware.

Thanks for your response to my question. I will try that. I even found new ldr files and still had the same problem. I was thinking that maybe had a dirty pcb board too and need to try to clean it. Here there is a lot of board in computers that go bad because of the weather here on the islands.
