Does disk still have HDD LOCK error, or is it reaching readiness now?

Dear Board Users

I think i have somthing near it.
The Drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
ST3500620AS,
FW: SD25
SideCode: KRATSG

After PowerOn te Drive sounds normal and recalibrate.
It have a "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)" problem
Terminaloutput: "LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF67"

But when i try to solve with PC3000UDMA Seagate F3 Solutions
they don't work.

The util output is:
WARNING! It`s probably HDD have "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)" problem
Try the command: Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"
From menu: Tests -> Solutions

Test : Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"
Switching HDD power supply OFF
PCB disconnection...

Switching HDD power supply ON
COM port reconnection...
PCB connection...
Terminal : error detecting HDD terminal baud rate
Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"............. : Error

The Drive don't spinUp, after PCB connection. The light DRD and DSC is on.
When i now read DriveID or restart the F3 Util without switchof power from HD, the recognised the correct Type, S/N and FW, capacity MB(0).

I' think ok, so i use the solution for the 0GB Problem, this is the log:
Test : Solution for problem "Translatioin violation (0 GB)"
HDD capacity restrict. check (SetMax)...

WARNING! It`s probably HDD have "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)" problem
Try the command: Solution for problem "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)"
From menu: Tests -> Solutions

HDD capacity restrict. check (SetMax)... : Error
Error : Terminal : error detecting HDD terminal baud rate
Solution for problem "Translatioin violation (0 GB)"........ : Error

When i try the method like Seagate Part2 Guide Chapter 10, Appendix 4, the dont work too..

Is there a way to get the data?

I had an identical case. Is there any solution for that?

killing Seagate Drive ST3500620AS Barracuda 7200.11

Postby Bruno » 16.03.09, 18:27

This is a very dangerous Drive!!!!

This Seagate Drive, killed my PC USB Terminal.

After work without success, i connect another seagate Drive (P-ATA) on the PC-3000UDMA.
With this Drive, a 100% funcional HD, the Error are the same:
Detection of HDD COM port baud rate..... : Error
Terminal : reply timeout error

After connect the next 100% functional HD (S-ATA)
Same Error!!

Now i remember i'm a old PC-3000 ISA user. After Build a new cable from PC-Kalok to Com1, i could use the terminal on Seagate without error.
So on this time i probe to solve the "HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC)" Problem on the patient Seagate.
There was a very black Day. Same Error on patient and after on the good drives.
And the matter: the patient seagate has killed first the PC USB TERMINAL and then then fine old PC-KALOCK..

I just solved this thing accidentally ;)

I changed COM setting to "Set PC COM data transfer rate" to 38400 and it worked fine this time, just repeat unlock operation again (not translation violation (0GB))

HDD: ST3500620AS
Firmware: AD1A

I saw this on HDDGuru they have posted a procedure for correcting this problem. Maybe check it out and see if it will help you. Said that a Russian scientist did a study on this and wrote the procedure and someone has translated it and given complete directions in English for this. Might want to look it up and see if it will help you out. Only suggestion

I have repaired a HDD with fw HP25 by standard recovery options in 7200.11 utility. Maybe it is supported now?

I believe it is 4.24, I will post here tomorrow when I have access to the machine. Alternatively, you can place patient PCB on donor HDD of accessible SA, such as SD15, when reaches DRDY put to slppe and swap PCB to patient HDA, and on recalibration HDD will have full terminal access.
