By-pass errors doing virtual copy

Postby manel » 30.01.09, 12:58

Hi

There's any way to by-pass errors doing a virtual copy from one hd to other? I've mark on task parameters that if an error is found only do one retry, but this hard disk have every 902 LBA (More or less) and error, so the copy is taking so long (ours and hours and hours...). There's anyway to by-pass this or in task parameters tell not to trying to read again this sector?

Best regards.

Hi,

your drive probably has a radial scratch or something like that, that's why u got errors periodically.
In this case there are 2 things u can do:
1. build head map and copy data quickly off the good sides,
2. set some short timeout value and SW/HW reset.

or U can build a map of used sectors and scan those chains.

U can set a shorter timeout, but this is still slow...
Isn't MHV utility capable of head map building?

Hi Pepe,

It isn't a MHV. It's a MHY.

I set 1000 miliseconds (I think that's ok, isn't it? )

When you try to do a head map, an error appears that says: "Run PC3000 utility first!". So there's no way to do this :D :D

It's possible to modify .Ini or PRC to get "online" the MHY series?

Thanks Pepe for replying.

Hi
I have never had an MHY yet, that's why I don't know if the MHV util can play with this family...
I would give it a try. Otherwise apply some pressure on ACE developers to hurry up a bit with MHY support :)

I'll do a photo and will post it here. I'm preassuring ACE developers but no still response. Perhaps I should send them some gift :D :D
