Do you have a second working drive you can connect to compare the results?

Actually hold up on the master password - I just noticed security is set to MAXIMUM

This means that if you use Master password, drive will erase itself when Master Password is used to unlock drive.

Yes, there are two security settings 'High' and 'Maximum;

High means that using master password will not erase drive
Max measn that using master password WILL erase drive

Mike,

Thanks, thats pretty useful to know!

You think you could help with one of my other posts, regarding NVRAM on HTS541? It is in the topic 'Read nv-ram from surface'

Thanks

The NVRAM utility from SA is not one that I have had the necessity to use yet .. Check with Tech Support that you are doing this in the correct manner.

Thanks MM and AJ for your replies.

According to Acelab's PC3K-UDMA documentation:
[1. Hitachi HDD manufactured before 2003 (Native);
2. Hitachi HDD manufactured after 2003 (IBM).
This PC3K suite utility currently supports the following families of 2.5" Hitachi HDD (Native): AA, BA, CA, DA, EA, EB, FA, FB.
- 1.8" HDD manufactured by HGST and belonging to the C4K40 and C4K60 drive families. The latter family is being manufactured at the time of publication.]

Mine, however, is a 2.5" and not a 1.8" drive.

So, AJ, you were right your earlier assessment that the C4K60 I'm working on now is a non-Native drive since it's manufactured date was Jan 2006. But for some reason, Acelab classified the C4K60 as "Native 2.5" families." See screen shot below:

In a post dated Nov 03, 2005, Acelab mentioned that there was a problem with the Native Utility.
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2561

I wonder if that problem had been resolved in the recent versions of the UDMA software.

Anyway I'm patiently awaiting a reply from Acelab Tech Support. In the mean time, one option is to use the ATA Commander. However, I can't find any accompanying user guide/manual. Any advice. Thanks.

Thanks to inputs from Roustam of Tech Support, I finally got the COM issue resolved by checking the COM-LPT port branch of the USB terminal adapter and changing the COM port to that stated. It worked like a charm and the hdd was unlocked in seconds! Amazing!

Thanks to all who responded to this COM issue.

You should write different NV ram that will give You acces to
SA, then You can rewrite secu modules ( that would do for Hitachi new families)
there is another thing You can try in DE there is option -use from active utility, or something
if this does not help maybe changing heads and traing all over again
