WD ZEUS (WD5000YS-01MP80, WD5000KS-000MNB0) head issues

Postby JiS » 29.08.08, 16:42

Hi,
i currently have 3pcs of WD Zeus family drive (1xWD5000KS-000MNB0, 2xWD5000YS-01MP80) with the same defect.
The drives spins up, slightly clicks, stops, restarts and finaly stops.
If I disable the head 6 and 7 the drives calibrates I can read the SA but I am not able to address more than 200.791 LBA (on the second drive only 33.551 LBA, third drive 66.095 LBA).
Is there any way how to read the data from remaining heads in PC3K UDMA (without DE)? Or I need to make head swap first (pretty dangerous on 8head model also don't have a donor now).
Looks like serial defect on Zeus drives. Any ideas?

Sound that you have head6 and head7 problems, for data recovery, better to swap the heads.

Good Luck and Cheers.
:)
