ST94019A 3.07 Vendor track

Postby swersig » 12.01.08, 10:59

Hi,

i am in need to recover data from an ST94019A 3.07 40GB Notebook drive. The drive is not recognized normally. Upon Powerup it has numerous read errors on cylinder 0x00970D, head 0x00 which turns out to be the vendor track. All other tracks on cylinder 0x00 read fine so i dont think this problem is head related. I can read the vendor track from cylinder 0x01. Rewriting the vendor track read from cylinder 0x01 to cylinder 0x00 does not solve the problem, the read errors stay (at exact the same sectors) so i suppose it is really defective sectors. Is it possible to relocate the vendor track or perhaps to change the main SA head to 0x01 ?

Thanks in advance.
