ST340016A

Postby Bruno » 30.08.07, 12:26

Hi all

I have a ST340016A.
The Util reports LBA=66055248 instead of LBA:78165360
In the UserGuide from PC3000UDMA i dont found articles over headmapping on this "SNOWMASS" drive.

any sugestions?

Dear Bruno,

You have to enter Universal Utility and see Log, could be capacity restriction.
Also check Max LBA value:(Tools - HDD - Set Max LBA).

Dear Yuriy

Thanks for your fast answer.
Your Tip are excelent,

Max LBA restricted to................... : 66 055 248 (135 680 863)
S.M.A.R.T............................... : Ok
Write cache............................. : enabled

but Max LBA set is only functional with RAM, not to service area: "HD does not support Set Max Command..."

This is the output from Seagate util:
Interface task reset
1024k x 16 buffer detected
SNOWMASS - 1_Disk 3.75 11-20-01 13:27

Power Cycling
ATReset
Head Mask 000F - Switch to full int.
Spin Ready

Sweeping 189 Cyls
PMaster

Dear Bruno,

We have simulated the same problem you have and found
that you have go directly to set max LBA after Power On at Universal Utility, set correct Max LBA and write it to SA. This command works only once per Power On session.

It works well.

Dear Yuriy

I have no chance to use your last message.
After shut down the pc for approx. 2Hours i do restart, run the PC-3000UDMA schitch on the power of ATA1 (the connector where the HD is connectet, and knock, knock
this is the Terminal output:

Interface task reset
1024k x 16 buffer detected
SNOWMASS - 1_Disk 3.75 11-20-01 13:27

Power Cycling
ATReset
Head Mask 000F - Switch to full int.
Spin Ready
$Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - Head Mask 000F - NIWOT TIME OUT

At the first time i connected this HD there doing the same, but after he works for any Hours. icould read the ~30GB.

I think Seagate is a hard bread for datarecovery...
Tomorrow is another day.

Dear Bruno,

According Terminal report, looks like problem with PCB or heads for now.
In this case necessary to swap PCB from donor drive and check Terminal report once again, and compare.

Dear Yuriy

At the first time, thank you for your egagement.

The PCB is ok. A Head are contaminated. After replacement of the HDA
i change the Max LBA and could recover the Data.

Have a good time Yuriy
