Im not 100% on this, but I always thought the 5th and 5th DCM characters represented Head and Preamp type? I know this is the case for older WD models.

If you do attempt this Head Exchange, please let us know how it goes.

TB letters stays for Tornado 3D drive. Unfoturnately this model is in development, and it is not listed in PC-3000 Utility supported families. However - you can try to access this drive by selecting similar families from WDC Marvell utility. If some family will be compartible it will succesfully read SA Modules directory.

Please let me know after you try it. I will also show this question to our developers to find out the solution.
I do not reccomend you to write anything to SA on this drive.

I think the head swap has not worked. The ID information you are getting is from the ROM.
(Usually displayed something like <ROM Model>-<ROM Revision>-WDC-ROM SN# XYZ---

e.g.
WDC ROM MODEL-UNICORN---07.01D07-WDC-ROM SN# XYZ----

(the above was from a SABRE58 so your's may be different.

you will need a better head stack match.

Hi Mike,

Just from curiosity what is your success on head replacement on these drives?

Thanks
