Seagate ST2000DM001 "PIO Register access timeout (1)"

Postby edbrandt » 28.06.17, 13:46

Hi

I have trouble accessing a Seagate ST2000DM001 FW:CC26, it reports "Drive not ready" and "PIO Register access timeout (1)" all the time.

The drive seems to spin up nice, no sounds of any kind.

Can't find any info regarding the issue in the documentation.

This is for training purposes only, no critical data. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Probably has issues with the media cache and/or sector re-allocation. Couple bits of information you need to provide.

First, can you provide a terminal log. Second, what's happening with the status registers at the bottom when you're getting this error? Is the BSY light getting stuck on?

Well, I noticed that the drive reported capacity of 0 GB, and tried the "Solution for the "Translation violation (0 GB)" problem" which actually failed. Then after some reading I decided to try the "Solution for the HDD Lock (LED: 000000CC) problem" since the HDD failed to become ready.

The hard drive now reports the correct capacity, and the "PIO Register access timeout (1)" message has gone. So it seems to have fixed something.

There are however still some issues, example when trying to read S.M.A.R.T info, it reports "Error reading S.M.A.R.T. (Attribs) HDD Redynes timeout (100000)" (a small typo in the err.msg btw)

Regarding the status registers, DRD and DSC is green, no stuck BSY or any red lights.

The log is here:

That's not the terminal, that's just the PC-3000 log. Need to see what the drive is reporting in the terminal tab when it's powered on.

Espen, for Seagate HDDs you want to connect the PC USB terminal adapter. There is a picture in the Seagate_1 manual (fig. 3.3) if you need it. Once you have the terminal adapter connected and working power on the hard drive and you should see output in the "terminal tab" that @DataMedics is referring to.

Thanks

Here is what the terminal log displays when I'm powering on the drive:

Code: Select all

Boot 0x40M
 Spin Up
 Trans.

 Spin Up
SpinOK
(P) SATA Reset

But I noticed the following when looking at the power monitor:

powermonitor.PNG
powermonitor.PNG (43.04 KiB) Viewed 6704 times

Looks very similar to the "3.5? ST2000DM001 (Grenada). With Voltage Graph. Weak head" in this article: http://blog.acelab.eu.com/pc-3000-p ... ision.html
