on power on it stays busy. sa seems to have no defects, i can read all cyls (-1 to -170), all heads (2 - 7, HM is 234567). i suspect bad pcb or logical damage to sa. the latter i cant sort out since i dont have any resources on these drives. this drive sounds normal on power up and wasnt dropped/didnt have power surge. cylinders on head 2 and 3 (main/backup sa i think) are identical. any ideas?

thanks

Thats good news. I suspect you had a weak head preventing correct translator initilisation, this has been talked about in different topics.
