Seagate 10K6 in pc3k-scsi updated (build 4.0.0.1230)

Postby -BR- » 22.01.10, 18:57

Hi

I am receiving "HDD family not defined" error when I try so connect a fully working ST336607LW on the newly updated pc3k-scsi (build 4.0.0.1230)

I can see no family selection for family 10K6 in the family selection windows

There is no translator regeneration funcion available when you select "other SCSI" our any other scsi family

Was the support for this family removed due to some error?

Is the problem you have a translator issue? If so and PC3K SCSI cannot repair I have different solution for this.

Please think carefully before spreading info like this around

this information is not the kind of information I would happily 'spread around'. I know BR is good experienced engineer, and recognise him from some years ago on hdguru forum also. I will happily share specialist knowledge where it will not be abused or spread anywhere else when in return I can benefit from the same type of infomation.

I know all to well the negative effect spreading information can have on the industry and am pretty careful about what I do and do not publicy say.

That's all I ask. That wasn't targeted specifically at you or any particular other person, more just a general comment for anyone who might be looking at the thread.

I want to state my position on this issue:

I agree that it's not wise to freely spread information that is gained by hard work at developing and/or researching
(see the Hddguru's post about Seagate 7200.11, for example)

But I think that to share this information on non-public forums and/or via private e-mail is another thing and is a decision to be made by the onwer of that information, as AJ2008 said, based on how it can benefit both sides

I will give you my personal example:

When I first learn PC3000 a long time ago in the ISA days, I did post many of my early discoveries at ACE forum (non-public - selected viewers only),

But I never posted such private informaition on free forums like MHDD's forum (now hddguru's)

This way I made a lot of friends, many have come to Brazil to take PC3000 classes with me, most of them I still mantain contact until today.

But they have learn a lot since then! Now they have big companies in USA, Canada, Europe ...

And today, instead of just givving information, I also receive a lot because we share among us

In my opinion, the DR field is gigantic in terms of knowledge, and it would be impossible for one to research it all alone 8)

I think that was a wise decision I made and I still benefit from it even years later on

But as I said, it's always up to the information onwer and no matter what we have to respect his decision

now returning to the original question on this topic:

I still would want to hear ACE position if 10K6 support was intentionally removed from the latest SCSI release

Was it not working well?

I did recover succesfully a lot of 10K6 translator problems with the older version!

In fact, I have just downgraded my utility and it still works like a charm ...
