Hi All,

I have a Hitachi HTS721060G9SA00, 60 GB SATA hard drive which a client delivered to me a few days ago.

The drive powers on, spins ok and sounds normal. The drive comes ready quickly like a healthy drive but the IBM/Hitachi utility cannot be opened using my PC-3000 PCI. The ARBT light turns on and i open the utility then select the correct model.

When i scan the module tables, the only real problem appears to be read errors on the p-list module.

Is there any way to reallocate the bad sectors or any other suggestions on what to try to recover the data. Data recovery is the goal.

No modules have been repaired or overwritten. See the screenshots below.

When the utility starts it says the following:

Any ideas on what to try to repair the p-list or make it readable?

I know the standard answer is...no way to repair this...

BUT - i know the Maxtor drives and some other drives have the option to do a SA surface scan and reallocate bad sectors to fix this.

The follow error message appears when scanning the modules, this is the only error in modules:

In this case rewrite module PSHT from copy 1 or factory to copy 0.

I've got precisely the the same drive, but 80 gb model, with same problem on "Open Modules Table" and on P-List module.
Curiously my drive when arrived here had P-List module OK, and only the problem with "Open Modules Table" that no one seems to be able to solve.
After some tests, P-List was damaged and I can't write it as well.
Maybe someone has some ideas that we could try.

Yuriy, both copies of the p-list module report the read error. This is the only module on the drive which has a problem, all other modules are reported as good.

Any ideas on how to reallocate the bad sectors in the SA for this drive?

In this case you may only to read these tree copies of PSHT module with "ignore reading error" option.
Afterwards using HEX editor try to build one PSHT module using good parts from these 3 copies.

But the problem of "Open table modules" is related to P-List?

Hi,

You got "Open modules reading error", cause HDD couldn't pass initialization.
It does not pass initialization as P-List is damaged.

But as you know I've already had the problem with "Open modules table" and the P-List modules was just fine, so there must be another problem as well.

i have a similar problem the p-list in head 0 is ok but in the head 1 is not ok.

And sometimes i can get ID and test some modules head 0 is ok but head 1 with error.
Other times i can not get any ID.


Anyone found anything

I just fixed a Travelstar where the p-list (PSHT) and G-List (RDMT) on copy 0 and 1 were bad, but F was ok. To restore the drive and copies I did the following:
1. Right click the good copy and select Module Viewing
2. In the Hex View select the Save to File Icon (Diskette with Arrow pointing in)
3. A popup should appear (Choose/Create Profile) with the drive information prefilled out, select OK
4. Module Data Saving will popup call the file P-List or G-List and select save.
5. Do the same with the other failed list, if needed.
6. Click on the modules tab
7. Right click the failed module and select Module Viewing
8. Select the Load from File icon (diskette arrow pointing out)
9. Select the appropriate file, select open.
10. Select the save Icon (Diskette)
11. Do the same with the other failed lists.
12. Power off the drive and then power on, the problem should be cleared.
1-12. One should only fix one module at a time, test to see if it corrected the problem and then work on another one.
