Hi This WD 80GB drive had a blown motor chip and so a donor board
was used and the ROM chip transplanted. The drive now spins up,
identifies and itself properly in PC3000 UDMA (see first picture).

But the Express testshow 100% failure to read on all sectors:

I ran the SA Surface Verification and Structure Test and you can see the errors below:

From a PC3KU test of a similar drive, I see that the errors point to S.M.A.R.T. errors.
So I attached a picture of the View Smart: (oops on 3 pix allowed!?) Basically it
has only 2 lines (with Id 0) that say "unknown parameter"

I have tried to Clear Smart, but I get an error, and then the drive starts clicking!
and I think there's a timeout error:
Other S.M.A.R.T. logs................... : S.M.A.R.T. clearing error (page 06) - Drive is not ready

I need help what to do next to get the data recovered.

Thanks!

Hi Hasan. Thanks for the info. I tried exactly as you suggest.
But I get the following errors:

Any Ideas now?

BTW I was able to repair S.M.A.R.T. using WD Doctor.
and 31, 32 gives 'CRC Length' error.

Cheers, Chris

Hello
You have Bad sectors in SA so you have two choice
1-if you have a donor try Hot-Swap
2-if you don't have donor you can try Dir module editting you can get the info from forum WD Marvell Dir module editing
