WD Smartware

Postby rcz » 24.09.10, 09:14

Hi,

I have a WD5000BMVV with about 6000 errors in it. The customer has formatted it, I don't know why...
Now when I scan image, nothing is found. Does someone know how WD Smartware manages data ? Is there a way to recover data if it has been formatted ?

Yes, format should not make a difference. Once surface is accessible, whether by entering security credentials if valid, or without encryption active but accessed through original USB interface, then formatted info can still be retrieved as in other disk drives.

Maybe was secure erased, or some other complications?

There's an intermediary person who has "formatted" and the final customer had already tried to "format" the disk... that's all I know...
In my opinion, as you say, security erase has been done. :|
