Recently I received 5 drives wd WD800JD-00LSA0, Sabre58 Unicron, same symptoms:

Knocking, then spinning down.

Hot Swap Does Not Work.
Heads changing , does not work.
Even I bring a good donor, I withdrew its heads and returned them to the donor, the donor starts clicking.

What I want to know: Is there any way to align heads in WD800 Sabre58 Unicron. I think there is heads alignment problem. Please try to help me.

janos,

I have the same exact problem with a WD800JD-75LSA0. I understand that these wd have a screw on the top that holds the head arm in place and once you remove the top, the heads become unaligned. My question is how to you align this issues? I have a pc3000, ddi, etc....

This is what I get...

Service area:
SA dir reading (ID)..................... : Unknown error. Error code: 4343
Configuration reading................... : Module 02 not found

Thanks..

Remove the patient PCB and power it on. Check the discrete components beneath the motor IC. If they are hot, the PCB is killing heads.

A good strategy is to use a replacement PCB when doing head swaps on this family, to make sure the PCB is not causing problems.
