WD Zeus and Hulk. Healthy SA - but no access to surface

Edited "RAM Head map" and found Head7 failing. Imaged using all remaining heads and got most of the data except for movies. This problem is not firmware-related, looks like due to one (or more) failing heads the Translator is not being loaded properly. Head Test in this drive family is not reliable.

I have Kermit and I found it has a head issue. RAM head mapping works perfectly.

I had same problem with WD1600BEVS-08RST2 (Aries family), SA ok but no acces to user data, no single sector...
All heads ok...
At the end it turns out that read/write chanel was dead. Changed PCB and get all user data...

sa test good
heads test good
sounds good
cant read anything - gets abrts
editted ram head map and turned off head 7, sw reset, drive comes ready (as before) but now I can read.
I imaged drive using remaining heads.

Is there a way to turn head 7 back on?
If I edit in ram will the head remain on if I dont do sw reset?
Head test works on head 7
If I go read cyl -10 head 7 I see A7 A7 which is the pattern written by head test.
So it works.
Any solution short of head swap?
