WD5000BEVT not spinning

I have a WD5000BEVT that does not spin.

When I put a donor board on the drive, it still does not spin. If I put the original board on the donor drive, it does spin up.

Platters are not stuck, nor are heads.

If I do a hot swap, however, the drive spins up(but clunks)

Has anyone seen this before and if so, what can I do to fix it?

I've seen this when the preamp was bad, but dont remember which drive.
Anyway, i think you should change hda.

Try power the disk with some paper isolated between HSA contact and PCB, but leave motor contact connected. If spindle starts, then almost certainly preamp is bad,

Does is make any noise at all?

Like a "buzz buzz" then nothing?

If you put your ear to it, you can hear the tiniest click when you apply power.
