Seagate ST4000DM000 (HDD.15 series) terminal access ?

Hi,

Has anyone managed to access the full diagnostic serial terminal on this series of drives ?

The majority of the Terminal Commands doesn't work for this series and PC-3000 UDMA doesn't fully support those drives yet.

Any help on how to "unlock" the full terminal diagnostics for it to work like on older F3 arch Series ?

Thanks.

Hello !

The only commands that the drive responds to are: Ctrl-Z (DIAG), Ctrl-R (ONLINE), Ctrl-T (ESLIP) and Ctrl-A (when in DIAG mode) to show a brief "Info" on the HW.

When in DIAG mode, you can do level traversal (/x) and the drive will switch, but any attempt to issue any commands will result in a null response, or an "Invalid command".

It definitely appears that Seagate have tried to disable external parties from accessing their diagnostic code, or maybe that code is blocked until some kind of unlock is issued.

Unfortunately the client decided that he didn't want to pay for the recovery and the drive was returned to him last week.

I will post again as soon as I manage to get another drive from the same family and research it further.

At any rate thanks for the reply. I will let you know as soon as I acquire an identical drive.
